Quang Tri Province is set to explore Weathernews' data to better forecast weather conditions and deal with natural disasters.
Japanese business Weathernews and Quang Tri have agreed to form a partnership that enables the central coastal province to receive and disseminate data and reports from the Japanese side to local authorities, enterprises, and people.
According to Vo Van Hung, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Quang Tri often faces natural disasters. The consequences and impacts of climate change have increased in recent years, and weather forecasts become more difficult.

To improve the quality of weather forecast in the province, he suggested that Weathernews work with the provincial government to build cross-province meteorological facilities, and develop highly-accurate weather forecasting products to minimize the risks and boost the province’s socio-economic growth.
The chairman also requested that the Japanese company transfer AI and big data technologies for weather and meteorology forecast. Furthermore, Hung expected Weathernews to cooperate with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to manage and run programs which benefits the province in weather reporting and forecast.
In response, Weathernews representatives reached a consensus with the province. The company proposed to provide data and services to better forecast the weather, and limit negative impacts caused by natural disasters.
In the early stage of the cooperation, the Japanese firm will offer trial products and services for Quang Tri. After assessment, the province will apply the products and services on a cross-province scale, and send information and data to the locals through phone messages, emails, and other communication platforms.
The data will be updated constantly from Weathernews’ radar based on AI technologies to report and alert the locals about the possibility of heavy rains, lightning strikes, storms, and hurricanes.
Weathernews is headquartered in Japan’s Chiba Prefecture. The company delegation was led by former Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Hiroshi Fukada.
