Deputy Chairman of the Quang Tri People’s Committee Hoang Nam chaired the event which was organized by the provincial Department of Foreign Affairs and Institute of Regional Sustainable Development (IRSD).
The project “Cooperating for implementation of Quang Tri (Vietnam) – Salavan (Laos) – Ubon Ratchathani (Thailand) Economic Corridor” designs common and specific targets that gradually create a transport corridor parallel with the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC). In other words, the project is called Para-EWEC. The corridor is expected to promote trade, tourism, agriculture, industry, urban development, job, and living standards of locals. It will contribute to ensuring food and energy security, security and defense, friendship, and comprehensive partnership among the localities of the three countries.
Para-EWEC is designed to become an inclusive and sustainable zone with economic development, urbanization, well-invested infrastructure, with effective development of each locality.
At the conference, delegates discussed measures to make the project possible by having specific plans, thus attracting investors and mobilizing resources to complete infrastructure, logistic facilities, and policies for better trading.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Quang Tri People’s Committee Hoang Nam stressed that the project on forming an economic corridor among Quang Tri, Salavan, and Ubon Ratchathani matters a lot to shaping Quang Tri’s cooperation programs with localities in Laos and Thailand in the coming time.
In this regard, ideas contributed to the project should be feasible to make it a national project which attracts international interest. It’s necessary to make it clear how important Para-EWEC is, the role of Quang Tri in the cross-border economic corridor, and how the parties of the three countries benefit from the project.
