About 100 households of poor women in communes of economic difficulties like Cam Thanh, Cam Thuy, Cam Tuyen, Thanh An, and Cam Lo Town are subject to loans worth VND20 million ($785) each. The interest rate of the three-year loan is 0.2% per month.
Beneficiaries will use the loans to buy cows and get instructions for cow raising.
Galilee International Church and Global Civic Sharing (GCS) will manage the loans while Cam Lo District Women’s Union is in charge of implementing the program.
Providing cows for poor households is in line with the National Key Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction which the Government of Vietnam has launched for the 2021-2025 period nationwide, with a focus on poor districts, communes of economic difficulties, and coastal and islandish areas. The program aims to reduce poverty in an inclusive and sustainable way to help people benefit from basic needs.
Quang Tri is one of the localities benefiting from the program through a component for what it call lending to buy cows to support the household economy. From this, poor households are provided an amount of money to buy cows or get cows from local governments to raise.
The model has been proven to be helpful for those in villages, enabling them to improve their economic situation. It is one of the best models for improving livelihoods.
