Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri People’s Committee Ha Sy Dong shared the view during a conference discussing international treaties and free trade agreements (FTAs) for the Central and Central Highlands provinces on September 30.
The conference was chaired by Nguyen Manh Tien, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee, and attended by FTA negotiation and foreign relations experts, representatives from ministries, and leaders of 15 provinces and cities in the Central and Central Highlands regions.
Quang Tri’s delegation, led by Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Ha Sy Dong, participated in the event.
During the conference, delegates focused on evaluating the implementation of international treaties and FTAs, including the issuance of legal documents to organize and implement these agreements, the organization and coordination mechanisms within government bodies, ministries, and local authorities, and the roles and responsibilities of relevant agencies in overseeing the implementation of these treaties. They also discussed the results and dissemination of information regarding FTAs, as well as challenges, obstacles, causes, and potential solutions.
In his remarks at the conference, Vice Chairman Dong emphasized that in recent years, Quang Tri’s People’s Committee has issued several decisions and plans to capitalize on opportunities brought by new-generation FTAs, ensuring a smooth integration process. The province has worked closely with ministries, experts, and business associations to organize training sessions for government officials and local businesses, focusing on opportunities, challenges, and how to effectively leverage FTAs, as well as on new trends that could impact business operations.

Particularly, the province has made significant efforts to connect local enterprises, both with each other and with foreign-invested companies. To further enhance the effective implementation of new-generation FTAs, Dong proposed that the government and relevant ministries strengthen communication efforts to disseminate information on FTAs, tailored to different groups, so that it meets the needs and development scale of local businesses. He also suggested supporting business groups affected by FTAs and improving their capacity to engage with countries involved in these agreements.
Dong also urged the government and ministries to provide support in developing the infrastructure of the La Lay International Border Gate, finalize plans for the Lao Bao-Densavan Cross-Border Economic Zone, and cooperate on the Quang Tri (Vietnam) - Salavan (Laos) - Ubon Ratchathani (Thailand) Economic Corridor project. Additionally, he recommended research on a 500kV transmission line project connecting Quang Tri, Laos, and Thailand.
Furthermore, he called on the government and National Assembly to accelerate key inter-regional projects crucial for economic and social development, as well as national security. These include the Quang Tri Airport, the coastal road connecting the East-West Economic Corridor, the road linking the eastern and western branches of the Ho Chi Minh Highway, My Thuy Port, the Quang Tri Industrial Park, the Hai Lang LNG project, and the Cam Lo - Van Ninh and Cam Lo - Lao Bao expressways, alongside other important energy projects in the province.
