The inaugural ceremony marks the attendance of representatives of the Ministry of Construction and Song Da Joint Stock Company.

The expanded Ngang Tunnel, which belongs to the project on upgrading and expanding bridges and roads nationwide, kicked off construction in January. The section costs VND220 billion (US$8.4 million) invested by the Ministry of Construction’s Project Management Unit for Railways.

Speaking at the tunnel breakthrough ceremony at Deo Ngang, Nguyen Tuan Anh, General Director of Song Da Joint Stock Company (the project contractor), said that the expanded Deo Ngang Tunnel is 650 meters long, with a 555-meter main tunnel body, 10.5 meters wide, consisting of two lanes and a design speed of 80 km/h.

The tunnel crosses the Hoanh Son mountain range, connecting Hoanh Son Ward in Ha Tinh and Phu Trach Commune in Quang Tri. Once completed, the Deo Ngang Tunnel will feature a total of two tunnels and four lanes (including the existing tunnel).

Mai Xuan Tan, Project Management Director, praised the efforts of the consortium of contractors in ensuring the project stays on schedule and in mitigating risks during construction. The technical breakthrough at Deo Ngang marks a significant milestone and affirms the trust of the project’s investor.

The investor has requested that the contractor concentrate all resources to substantially complete the expanded Deo Ngang Tunnel and put it into operation by the end of 2025.

On this occasion, the Project Management Unit for Railways also presented gifts to encourage the engineers and workers involved in the tunnel expansion.

According to Nguyen Tuan Anh, the construction team mobilized 130 personnel and over 40 key vehicles and machines for the project. The engineers and workers managed to finish one month ahead of schedule.
