The central province of Quang Tri has proposed that the Vietnamese government provide assistance to Laos in repairing a key cross-border road segment to facilitate smoother trade and import-export activities.
The road from Vietnam’s Cha Lo International Border Gate to Laos’ Na Phao Border Gate, has severely deteriorated, hindering cross-border transport. National Highway 12A and the Cha Lo-Na Phao International Border Gate serve as a critical trade corridor connecting Quang Tri with Khammouane Province in particular, and with Central Laos and northeastern Thailand.
In response to the poor road conditions, the Na Phao International Border Gate has issued a notice to relevant agencies, logistics firms, and cross-border transport operators, informing them of measures to facilitate the repair of the 18-kilometer road segment.

The section under repair extends from the Vietnam-Laos border marker to the Lang Khang junction in Laos. Accordingly, vehicles are advised to limit movement between 6 PM. and 6 AM starting from May 15 until the construction is completed. The Cha Lo International Border Gate plays a vital role as one of the primary trade hubs between Vietnam and Laos, enabling the import and export of goods such as agricultural products, construction materials, and machinery. On average, hundreds of cargo trucks pass through the gate daily, either heading into Laos or continuing onward to Thailand.
