The bomb, identified as an MK82, was discovered on July 6 during dredging work on the Son River by the management board of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. The finding prompted an immediate suspension of all dredging and tourist activities along the Phong Nha–Tien Son route to ensure public safety.
PeaceTrees Vietnam Quang Binh confirmed on July 14 that an explosive ordnance disposal team from MTT1 had successfully relocated the device to a secure storage facility.
The national park management reported the discovery to local authorities, triggering a coordinated response led by the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command. At the command’s request, PeaceTrees Vietnam deployed its team to remove the bomb from the high-traffic area.
