Vice Chairman Hoang Nam of the Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee held a meeting with a delegation from PeaceTrees Vietnam, led by Executive Director Mary Calaire Yunker, on July 22.
During the event, Vice Chairman Hoang Nam of the Provincial People’s Committee expressed high appreciation for the organization’s efforts to strengthen the Vietnam-US friendship and support post-war recovery, significantly contributing to socio-economic development and poverty alleviation in Quang Tri.
He emphasized the importance of close collaboration between the organization and local authorities in implementing programs and projects. Nam highlighted the organization’s need to accelerate mine clearance projects to mitigate threats and support the province’s socio-economic development plan for 2021-2025.

Nam expressed his hope for implementing support programs after demining and stressed the need to enhance the organization’s support scale at schools.
The year 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of PeaceTrees Vietnam’s cooperation with Vietnam and Quang Tri Province. Nam suggested that the organization collaborate with relevant agencies to organize commemorative activities.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee extended gratitude to the organization for their visit and enthusiastic participation in the inaugural Festival for Peace held in the province this month.
Executive Director Mary Claire Yunker thanked local leaders and residents for their steadfast support over nearly 30 years of cooperation. This support has been instrumental in enabling the organization to address the aftermath of war in Quang Tri effectively.
By the end of March 2026, PeaceTrees Vietnam has committed to supporting Quang Tri Province with over US$26.3 million.
Currently, PeaceTrees Vietnam cooperates with the province on a mine clearance project aimed at minimizing risks and supporting Quang Tri’s socio-economic development plan for the period 2021-2025, with a total budget of US$14.5 million. This project underscores the robust partnership between Quang Tri province and PeaceTrees Vietnam.
Mary Claire Yunker affirmed that the organization remains committed to collaborating with localities in continuing efforts to address the consequences of war and enhance educational initiatives.
Over nearly 30 years of operation in Quang Tri province, PeaceTrees Vietnam has cleared nearly 143,000 mines and explosives, reclaiming over 2,700 hectares of land. The organization has provided emergency assistance to 220 landmine victims and long-term support to 62 families. Additionally, PeaceTrees Vietnam has initiated several local charity projects, including the construction of more than 20 kindergartens, 12 libraries for the local women’s union, a resettlement village, and two community houses.
