Quang Tri, SK Group sign MoU on energy projects

Quang Tri Province has inked a memorandum of understanding with South Korea’s SK Group and SK E&S on the province’s energy transition and green growth.

Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Vo Van Hung appreciated SK Group’s positivity and initial ideas in proposing initiatives and cooperation roadmaps.

Hung informed that Quang Tri Province has proposed to the Prime Minister and the Government to consider and approve the conversion of coal fuel to LNG at the Quang Tri Thermal Power Plant in the Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone and put the project into the National Power Development Plan VIII, with a capacity increase from 1,320 MW to 1,500 MW.

In addition to coordinating the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding, with SK Group’s experience in multi-industry and multi-field development, Chairman Hung suggested that SK Group support Quang Tri in training local human resources for SK Group’s future projects.

Hung also affirmed the province’s strong commitment to implementing cooperative projects.

On his part, the Chairman and CEO of SK E&S Company, Choo Hyeongwook, highly appreciated the willingness to cooperate, initiative, and positivity of Quang Tri Province in promoting energy projects in the province.

He confirmed SK Group’s interest and priority in implementing energy solutions. In particular, immediate priority is given to proposals to convert projects using coal power to more environmentally friendly gas power, he said.

The meeting was part of Chairman Hung’s trip to South Korea during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit. The Chairman also met representatives of K Global-Mobility/Korea Company (TataDaewoo) and discussed the proposed business project of truck maintenance, export of components, and vehicle assembly factory in Quang Tri.
