A conference in Ha Giang reviewed the Irish-funded “Moving Forward” program, enhancing ethnic minority living conditions through infrastructure, livelihoods, and adaptation.
The Provincial People’s Committee, in collaboration with Plan International Vietnam, CARE International in Vietnam, the Center for research on initiatives of community development (RIC), on November 12 held a conference to review the “Moving Forward” program for the 2023–2024 period and discuss the implementation plan for 2024–2025.

Photo: H.TThe program, funded by the Irish Embassy, aims to improve the quality of life for ethnic minorities in 15 needy communes in the central province of Quang Tri, the nother provinces of Hoa Binh and Ha Giang.In Quang Tri, the program developed infrastructure projects such as flood-resistant concrete roads, water supply systems, solar power installations, and public restrooms in Dakrong, Ta Long, and Ta Rut communes (Đakrong District) and Lia and Ba Tang communes (Huong Hoa District). Additionally, six safe schools were constructed, benefiting 1,084 students.As part of the program, nine livelihood development workshops were conducted, attracting 298 participants. Support initiatives were also implemented for 15 cooperative groups to develop forest planting, livestock farming, and service-based business models. A local agricultural product fair was organized to promote products and connect them to markets.The conference focused on discussing and evaluating the results achieved during the 2023–2024 period while defining overarching goals for the 2024–2025 period. Key priorities include integrating climate change adaptation standards, encouraging community-driven initiatives to improve living conditions and foster socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous regions.
