During the visit of Quang Tri’s high-ranking delegation to Sekong Province, Laos, a meeting was held on March 18 with the objective of enhancing cooperation between the two regions.
At the meeting, the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Governor of Sekong Province, Leklay Sivilay, provided an overview of the socio-economic development situation, investment in local infrastructure, especially in the field of coal mining and production.

He also highly appreciated the visit and working session of the high-level delegation from Quang Tri Province.
According to the Governor, this visit serves as an important foundation for the two provinces to further materialize the cooperative contents, aiming for deeper and more effective cooperation.
Regarding the previously signed cooperation agreements between the two localities, Lekley said that Sekong Province has been and will continue to make efforts to implement them, creating favorable conditions for businesses engaged in coal mining, transportation, and export from Sekong to Vietnam through the international border gates of La Lay - La Lay and Densavan - Lao Bao. The Party, government, and people of Sekong Province are ready to welcome and provide the most favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises, especially those from Quang Tri Province, to invest in the locality, he noted.

For his part, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Le Quang Tung congratulated the significant achievements that the Sekong Province have attained. He also highly appreciated the initial results achieved in the cooperative relationship and expressed confidence in the continuous development of this special friendship between Quang Tri and Sekong provinces in the coming time.

The leaders of the two provinces also agreed on several cooperation contents during the conference, focusing on priority tasks. Specifically, they discussed the research and expansion of the road route from Kaleum District (Sekong Province) to Ta Oi District (Salavan Province) to connect with the transportation route through Nong District to Ban Dong (Savannakhet Province) and Lao Bao International Border Gate, facilitating trade and transportation, especially of coal.
Furthermore, they agreed to coordinate in studying solutions to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, logistics services, and tourism through the parallel corridor with the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC), strengthening connections between Sekong - Champasak - Salavan - Quang Tri provinces and the key economic region in the Central Highlands through La Lay International Border Gate.
