EDPR aims to study and assess the potential for radiation levels and wind speeds in Quang Tri Province to implement onshore wind and solar power projects with a capacity of at least 50MW per project.
EDPR, a subsidiary of the EDP Group, operating in the renewable energy sector in 64 countries worldwide, has an integrated system covering energy production, transmission, supply, and management, with a total investment of US$5.2 billion.
The group has been present in Vietnam since 2019, with wind and solar power projects in southern provinces, totaling 500MW of installed capacity and an investment of US$500 million.
At the meeting, the company’s leadership expressed their desire to receive support from the local authorities to connect with industrial zones, the Management Board of the Provincial Economic Zone, and establish partnerships with manufacturing plants, foreign-invested companies, and administrative units that have a direct demand for electricity from rooftop solar power systems.
He added that the proposed investment model involves installing rooftop solar power systems in industrial zones, manufacturing plants, and administrative units. EDPR will also cover the operation, maintenance, and repair costs of the solar power systems throughout the project’s lifespan.
The investment projects in Quang Tri will drive Vietnam’s energy transition, establish it as a clean energy hub in the Central region, attract FDI, boost local revenue and employment, and ensure a competitive electricity supply for industries and administrative units.

During the meeting, Vice Chairman Hoang Nam acknowledged Quang Tri’s potential for green energy development and the local government’s strategy to develop the province into a clean energy center in the Central region.
He added that the province has focused on developing this sector in recent years. Currently, there are 19 operational commercial wind power projects in the province, with a total capacity of 713.4MW, and 12 approved investment projects under implementation, with a capacity of 500MW. In addition, there are three offshore wind power projects under study by investors, with a capacity of 2,600MW.
The province also has three solar power plants with a capacity of 119MW and a rooftop solar power plant with a capacity of 90MW in commercial operation. Moreover, there are plans for 22 solar power projects with a capacity of 1,600MW. Therefore, Quang Tri welcomes capable investors to survey, research, and seek investment opportunities.
The Vice Chairman appreciated EDPR’s capabilities and acknowledged the company’s proposals. He instructed the relevant departments and agencies to conduct research and provide recommendations to the Provincial People’s Committee.
Furthermore, he pledged to support investors throughout the promotion and cooperation process for clean energy investment, contributing to the local socio-economic development.
