The airport site is a strategic location in the Central region, connecting the North-South axis via National Highway 1 - Ho Chi Minh Road, and the East-West economic corridor through National Highway 9 and the Lao Bao International Border Gate. It serves as a gateway to attract passengers to the Central and the Mekong Delta regions.
The project will be built to meet the 4C airport standard of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), meaning it can receive Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, meeting the demand to serve up to five million passengers per year and handle 25,500 tons of cargo per year.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Vo Van Hung emphasized that the launch of the Quang Tri Airport Project is an important prerequisite for the subsequent steps.
Hung requested relevant departments and agencies to support and create favorable conditions for the investors to implement the project on schedule. Gio Linh District will engage and involve residents affected by the project to contribute to its successful implementation. This will include the relocation of households to clear land and enhance living conditions in the resettlement areas.

During the ceremony, the investor representatives urged the provincial authorities to expedite the compensation and site clearance process to facilitate the project’s implementation. They also requested support in completing the legal procedures for construction permits and guidance on the procedural sequence for the airport’s operation.
The province will study and consider opening air routes once the project is completed and meets the operational requirements. In particular, they will focus on operating international routes to Quang Tri along the East-West Economic Corridor, as suggested by the investor representatives.
As part of the project’s groundbreaking ceremony, the Quang Tri provincial People’s Committee approved the selection of qualified investors and issued a business registration certificate for the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project to the T&T Infrastructure Investment and Development JSC (a member of the T&T Group) and CIENCO4.
