The Department of Forest Inspection of Savannakhet province of Laos and the Department of Forest Protection of Quang Tri signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on forest protection for the period 2024 – 2029.

The signing of the MoU took place in Caysone Phomvihan City, Savannakhet Province, Laos, on September 10.
Accordingly, the two sides promote cooperation in preventing illegal acts, such as deforestation, illegal logging, illegal hunting of wildlife, illegal transportation of timber, forest products and wildlife in border areas.
The agencies will strengthen supervision of the trade of timber, forest products and wildlife at border gates as well as proactively coordinate to resolve violations.
Every 6 months, the agencies of the two provinces will share information on the import and export of timber and wildlife, such as quantity, origin. They also join hands in preventing and fighting forest fires in border zones.
Annual meetings will also be held to review the implementation of the MoU. This will be an opportunity for agencies to share experiences in forest and wildlife management and protection.
