The MoU signing aims to bolster Quang Tri and Salavan’s efforts in forest and wildlife protection.
The forest ranger departments of Salavan and Quang Tri provinces today (September 12) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to foster joint efforts in in forest and wildlife protection during 2024-2029.
Under the agreement, the two sides agreed to promote educational activities and raise public awareness about forest resource protection and biodiversity conservation, and combat illegal logging, wildlife trafficking, and illegal transport of forest products.

Quang Tri and Salavan will further share information and knowledge with each other, and control and prevent illegal activities such as deforestation, wildlife poaching, and the smuggling of timber and forest products along the border.
Both parties will enhance monitoring and strict inspection of timber, forest products, and wildlife exports and imports at border checkpoints.
The two provinces consented to conduct regular meetings to handle violations in accordance with the laws of each country.
Every six months, Quang Tri and Salavan will exchange data on the quantity of timber, forest products, and wildlife that has been imported and exported across the border.
Additionally, they will coordinate forest fire prevention efforts in the border areas and intensify collaboration in preventing deforestation and forest land encroachment.
Annual meetings will be held alternately between the two sides to evaluate the implementation of the MoU, and exchange practices on forest management, forest development, wildlife protection, and forest product management.
The MoU signing marks a significant step for the two localities in forest and wildlife protection, which ensures more effective management and conservation along the border areas.
On this occasion, Quang Tri Province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Forest Protection Department presented gifts to their local Lao counterparts.
