Quang Tri Province agrees with investors on green energy project

Leadership of Quang Tri Province today (August 28) agreed with a consortium’s proposal to build green energy facilities in the province.

The project, proposed by Minh Quang Investment, Trade, and Technology JSC and the China Huadian Corporation, aims to facilitate Quang Tri to explore the advantages of renewable energy and produce hydrogen and green methanol from biogas.

The project’s cost estimate is US$440 million. The investors plan to build the facilities in the Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone, covering an area of 80 hectares.

In phase 1 of the project, the consortium plans to build a wind farm with a capacity of 265 MW, a solar farm with a capacity of 95 MWp/80 MW, along with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of 30 MW/30 MWh.

The project also includes a green hydrogen plant with a capacity of 12,000 tons per year and a green methanol synthesis plant with a capacity of 100,000 tons per year.

Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Le Quang Tung outlined the province’s strengths and potential and the cooperative relationship between Quang Tri and Chinese localities.

“With favorable natural conditions, Quang Tri promises to be an attractive destination for investors in the renewable energy sector,” he said.

All energy plants in the province produce nearly 1,000MW, including wind power, solar power, and thermal power, Tung said.

As per the National Power Development Plan for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Quang Tri will have an additional 600MW of renewable energy, the provincial party chief said.

He pledged that the province would give the investors full support to realize the goals, urging them to complete the necessary procedures.

Tung also asked the Provincial People’s Committee and local agencies to assist the investors in finalizing the project portfolio, aiming to inaugurate the project as soon as possible.

In response, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Vo Van Hung highly valued the investors' efforts in studying and preparing preliminary and feasibility reports.

He agreed with the investors' proposal and asked the provincial Promotion Agency, local departments, the provincial Economic Zone Management Board, and relevant agencies to continue supporting the investors.

He also recommended that the consortium of investors concentrate their resources and efforts to promptly realize the proposed project as committed, ensuring compliance with legal regulations.

The China Huadian Corporation’s Deputy Director Liu Wei and Minh Quang Company’s Chairman Tran Do Thanh highly valued the prospects of cooperation between Quang Tri and the consortium in green energy.

They committed to adhering to the province’s directives and pledged that the relevant activities would comply with all legal regulations.

Minh Quang Company is known for its capabilities and extensive experience in various sectors in Vietnam, including renewable energy, biofuels, and clean fuels. The company is developing solar power projects in Dak Nong Province with a total capacity exceeding 400 MW.

The China Huadian Corporation is a leading enterprise in China, excelling in electricity, chemical industry, ports, minerals, and metallurgy.
