Quang Tri promotes marine tourism potential

Quang Tri has many potentials for tourism development, such as a 75-km long coastline and many beautiful and pristine beaches, including Vinh Thai, Vinh Kim, Cua Tung, Cua Viet, Trieu Lang, My Thuy and Hai Khe.

Tourism researchers emphasize that the province needs to call for investment in famous beaches, such as Cua Tung Beach, known as the “Queen of beaches”, Cua Viet, with the advantage of being close to Dong Ha City and a high-quality service-tourism area, a Con Co Island, located about 17 nautical miles from the mainland, is also an attractive destination for tourists.

Implementing Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW of the 12th Party Central Committee on “Strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam’s marine economy to 2030, vision to 2045”, the provincial Party Executive Committee set the goal of developing Quang Tri’s marine tourism.

The resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term identifies sea and island tourism as a focus to turn tourism into a key economic sector.

Over the years, the People’s Committee has issued many plans to develop marine tourism, making coastal areas into important service and tourism areas to promote socio-economic development. This is a vital direction to create more jobs and increase income for workers.

Quang Tri proactively allocates local budget resources to develop infrastructure in coastal service-tourism areas.

Agencies have upgraded electricity and clean water systems for roads leading to the centers of service areas in Trung Giang and Gio Hai, as well as developing the coastal transportation system of Cua Tung - Cua Viet and Hai An - Hai Khe to promote the province’s coastal tourism development.

Director of the Provincial Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center Nguyen Duc Tan highlighted the potential and importance of the nearly 20 km long Gio Linh district coastline stretching from the south of Cua Tung bridge to the south of Cua Viet.

The province has concentrated on investing in tourism infrastructure in the Greater Mekong Subregion, Quang Tri Subproject, to attract tourists to Trung Giang community beach, Gio Hai community beach, Cua Viet beach and Cua Viet tourist port. To attract more tourists, the local authorities are constructing Quang Tri Airport, a coastal road project connecting the East-West Economic Corridor Phase 1.

To create a premise for developing sea and island tourism, the Provincial People’s Committee has approved a plan to build services and tourism along the Cua Tung - Cua Viet coastal road and a plan to build a tourist area in the Con Co island district.

The Provincial People’s Committee has proposed that the Prime Minister list Cua Tung and Cua Viet beaches and Con Co island as areas of potential tourism development to attract investment and technical resources for tourism infrastructure development. These areas are expected to be attractive tourist areas, making a push to promote Quang Tri tourism by its potential and advantages.

According to Tan, in recent years, a number of large domestic corporations have come to survey and design entertainment and resort projects on beaches in the province. The formation of entertainment centers and beach resorts combined with coastal urban landscapes, Cua Viet Port, My Thuy Port, and Quang Tri Airport will help attract domestic and foreign tourists.

“For the development of marine tourism, the province needs to invite more investors to build modern tourism infrastructure and boost the construction of high-end accommodation facilities,” Tan said.
