Akagi noted that in 2025, both Japan and Vietnam will celebrate major anniversaries. Hiroshima province, in particular, will commemorate 80 years since the atomic bombing of the city.
In light of these events, Quang Tri and Hiroshima could collaborate to organize activities to share their experiences and lessons in recovery and socio-economic development. Akagi expressed a desire for leaders of both localities to enhance their connections and cooperation, aiming to hold a peace-themed event in Hiroshima.
To strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two provinces, Hiroshima extended an invitation to Quang Tri’s leaders to visit and work in Hiroshima in 2025. Hiroshima has already prepared plans to welcome the delegation and hopes Quang Tri will soon provide specific plans for the HVPF to facilitate and support within its capacity.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri People’s Committee Hoang Nam highly valued HVPF’s activities in Quang Tri, particularly its efforts to establish cooperative relations between the two provinces. He shared that in 2024, Quang Tri successfully organized the Peace Festival, spreading a message of peace and affirming Quang Tri’s and Vietnam’s commitment to peace.
In 2026, Quang Tri plans to hold the second Peace Festival. Therefore, the province agrees in principle and appreciates the idea of cross-border peace-building activities proposed by HVPF. Relevant departments and agencies in Quang Tri will collaborate with Hiroshima counterparts to draft plans for approval by the two countries’ leaders.
Hoang Nam also confirmed that Quang Tri is planning a visit to Hiroshima in 2025 and requested HVPF’s support to ensure the trip’s success. He extended an invitation for Hiroshima’s leaders to visit Quang Tri in the near future.
Additionally, Quang Tri proposed that HVPF continue to support students in the province by connecting them with scholarship opportunities offered by HVPF and the Japanese government, expanding cooperation in vocational education and labor export.
During the visit, HVPF awarded 60 scholarships worth 10,000 Japanese yen each to underprivileged students at the Quang Tri Ethnic Minority Boarding School. This marked the 16th time HVPF has provided scholarships to students at this school.
