In 2023, Quang Tri Province created jobs for 13,989 laborers (achieving 116.6% of the plan), according to the Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs.
Among them, the province sent 2,800 people abroad for work under contracts. The main labor export market is Japan (accounting for 54%), followed by Taiwan and South Korea.
According to statistics from the Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, the number of laborers exported has been rapidly increasing each year.
Specifically, in 2016, only 747 laborers were working abroad under contracts, but by 2023, the number had reached 14,592.
Surveys conducted by relevant agencies show that laborers working abroad have significantly higher incomes than domestic workers. The remittances sent back to the province by overseas workers under contracts have been increasing yearly, contributing to the province’s goals of sustainable poverty reduction and socio-economic development.
The Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs said that, although the effectiveness of labor export is evident, the level of labor export has yet to match the local potential due to various reasons. Difficulties in mobilizing funds for labor export, low skill levels, and psychological concerns of some young people about being far from their families are the main reasons.
