The assets, such as the Dakrong Nature Reverse, the Con Co Island Marine Reserve, the Hien Luong – Ben Hai relic, and the Quang Tri Citadel, are considered the foundation for the province to turn tourism into one of its economic spearheads.

In recent years, the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has integrated technological solutions in the administration and development of smart tourism and brought about better tourist services.

The department has also developed a detailed action plan to digitalize the data and information of the relics, tangible and intangible heritages, and traditional rituals in the province.

With support from the provincial Intelligent Operation Center under the Department of Information and Communications, the department has updated the data on the Quang Tri IOC app and made it public.

While the Department of Science and Technology has worked with the provincial Center for Conservation of Relics and Museums under the tourism department to conduct studies to develop a digital bank that collects information on historical relics, cultural events, and landscapes in the province.

Outstanding researches include the adoption of GIS technology in developing the database of local landscapes and relics and the development of a database about the Quang Tri Citadel and the event of 81 days and nights of 1972, with the latter being digitalized and integrated into the Quang Tri Cultural Heritage app.

The app is available for download on the CH Play, or travelers can scan the QR code labeled at the relics. The app provides information on local relics such as the Quang Tri Citadel, the 81 nights and days of the 1972 events, historical sites, and cultural rituals and festivals.

Though in the early stage, the studies have supported local authorities and people to nurture smart tourism in the province as they help digitalize and consolidate the data in a collective platform.

Through the platform, the province can better develop and manage the local tourism sector and facilitate the development of provincial and national e-maps.

In 2023, the tourism department will release a guide to raise awareness of local authorities, businesses, and tourist places about digital transformation and connect e-commerce companies to local manufacturers to create new value chains for the sector.

The department will also follow the Decision No.1671/QD-TTg issued by the Prime Minister on November 30, 2018, regulating the nationwide adoption of technologies in tourism until 2025.

The provincial department will continue to implement its plan for tourism digital transformation, which sets up the Quang Tri Provincial Tourism portal to promote and advertise tourist products and services to inbound travelers.

The province will also develop a communication network for visitors to seek information about promotions, advertisements, and tourist destinations and encourage the provision of wireless internet connectivity for travelers.

Online payment methods, including e-wallet, bank card, and QR code scan, will also be recommended at the visiting sites.

“We need to raise awareness of the public and authorities about digital transformation to hasten the process,” said Ho Van Hoan, director of the provincial tourism, sports and culture department.

“The chiefs of government agencies take responsibility for the digital transformation in their agencies,” he said. “Every digital transformation target must be attached to the agencies’ activities.”
