VSICO has invested VND236 billion (US$9.8 million) to develop the port across a site of more than 85,700 square meters. The inland port is designed to streamline cargo movement through this key economic corridor.

The port will handle 3.5 million tons of cargo per year, including 100,000 TEUs of containers and 1 million tons of bulk cargo. It is expected to generate VND200 billion (US$8.3 million) in annual revenue and contribute VND25 billion (US$1 million) to the state budget.

The port’s design features eight functional areas, including an 8,730 sq.m operations office housing customs, tax, banking, and transport offices, along with staff housing. It also includes a 38,787 sq.m container yard with a capacity of up to 250,000 tons, a 13,100 sq.m warehouse, a fuel supply zone, a maintenance workshop, a technical infrastructure area, and designated parking and staging zones.

VSICO will equip the port with five cargo cranes, five bulk leveling machines, and two weigh stations. The facility can handle up to 1,000 vehicles daily. The company plans to complete and commission Phase 1 by Q1 2026.

At the ceremony, Acting Chairman the Quang Tri People’s Committee Ha Sy Dong highlighted the project’s importance, given the growing cargo demand along the East-West Economic Corridor. He stressed the urgent need to develop modern, synchronized logistics infrastructure to support regional economic growth.

Dong urged VSICO to speed up the project by securing adequate manpower, materials, and equipment, and by carrying out a clear and practical construction plan. He also encouraged local departments, agencies, and border gate units to work closely together to address challenges and ensure smooth project progress.

Once operational, the port will create local jobs, improve social welfare, strengthen related services, promote urban development, and contribute to rural transformation.

Dong also encouraged Lao Bao residents and local authorities to actively support the project, helping ensure its on-time and successful completion for the long-term development of Quang Tri.
