Delegation of Vietnam Journalist Association visits Havana

As part of the 4th International Conference on Digital Political Communication “Patria” held in Havana, Cuba, on March 19, the Vietnamese delegation, led by Nguyen Duc Loi, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, met with the leadership of the Cuban Journalists Association. The delegation was received by Ricardo Ronquillo, Chairman of the Cuban Journalists Association, along with the association’s vice chairpersons. Representatives from the Central Ideological Commission of the Communist Party of Cuba also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Nguyen Duc Loi, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, highly praised the content of the 4th “Patria” International Conference on Digital Political Communication, organized by the Communist Party of Cuba. The large number of journalists from different continents attending the event reflected its significance and broad appeal. More importantly, delegates shared valuable experiences in ensuring accurate reporting on global and regional developments, countering the hegemony and dominance of Western media, which often distorts information for political purposes.

Nguyen Duc Loi also highlighted major events in Vietnam in 2025, including the 50th anniversary of national reunification, the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the 100th anniversary of Revolutionary Journalism in Vietnam. He called on the Cuban Journalists Association and Cuban media organizations to provide coverage of these events through information exchanges and bilateral cooperation.

The leadership of the Cuban Journalists Association agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation, expressing Cuba’s willingness to publish valuable Vietnamese documents and books in Spanish and facilitate journalist exchanges for experience-sharing.

The Cuban side thanked the Vietnamese delegation for participating in the conference and delivering impactful speeches that captured the attention of attendees. Later that afternoon, during a discussion session before the conference’s conclusion, Dr. Dinh Quynh Anh from the Vietnam Journalists Association contributed to a discussion titled "Media Manipulation in the Digital Transformation Era and Strategies for Response."

Dr. Quynh Anh emphasized that with the rapid advancement of technology and artificial intelligence, fake news has become increasingly sophisticated, making it harder than ever to distinguish fact from fiction. From deepfake videos impersonating famous figures to AI-generated articles, misinformation is evolving at an alarming rate.

More concerningly, fake news exploits human curiosity, spreading rapidly across social media and causing serious consequences. Recognizing and combating misinformation is not only the responsibility of journalists and media organizations but of society as a whole. Only through close cooperation among all stakeholders can the truth be protected, public trust maintained, and a healthy media environment fostered.

On this occasion, Nguyen Duc Loi presented gifts to the Cuban Journalists Association, while Truong Duc Minh Tu, Editor-in-Chief of Quang Tri Newspaper, gifted a present to Granma Newspaper.
