Ha Van Bac, Head of the Cam Lo - Dong Ha City Forest Protection Department, announces today (April 7) that a flock of rare storks, numbering in the hundreds, has recently appeared in Cam Lo Town, Cam Lo District. Their appearance has been causing a stir, offering a unique opportunity to witness a seldom-seen species in the wild.

Bac said that the stunning birds have been frequenting abandoned fields in the town during the day, especially around the Phan Xa Phuong village and Cam Thanh commune. The birds are often seen feeding on worms, crickets, grasshoppers, and golden apple snails. As night falls, they retreat to the surrounding cajuput forests and the serene Nghia Hy Lake, where they spend the night in peace.

The swallow stork, known for its rarity, is listed in Vietnam’s Red Book of Endangered Species. Typically found in mangrove forests, their appearance in Cam Lo Town is a significant event for nature lovers and birdwatchers, as sightings of these birds are extraordinarily rare.

“This flock has been in the area for nearly a month, but the largest numbers have been observed in the last three days,” Bac stated. "We’ve urged local authorities to raise awareness among residents, asking them to avoid hunting or disturbing the birds. It’s crucial that everyone plays a part in protecting this rare species."

With their arrival, Cam Lo Town has become an unexpected destination for those eager to experience Vietnam’s natural wildlife in its purest form. Local authorities are working to ensure the storks are respected and protected, allowing visitors to witness this extraordinary moment in the natural world.
