The central province of Quang Tri needs to invest in resources to attract tourists interested in cultural experiences.
Vietnam recently welcomed a group of 4,500 tourists from India, signaling a positive trend for the tourism industry and encouraging localities to better prepare for large international groups. While Quang Tri has significant tourism potential, it must intensify its efforts to draw visitors eager to immerse themselves in local culture.

According to Nguyen Duc Tan, Director of the Center for Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion of Quang Tri Province, visitors to the area will have excellent opportunities to engage in cultural tourism while exploring its stunning natural landscapes.
Statistics from the General Department of Tourism reveal that about 56% of cultural tourists prefer visiting cultural and spiritual sites. This highlights Quang Tri Province’s considerable potential for tourism development, given its extensive network of diverse cultural attractions.
Of the more than 500 recognized relics in Quang Tri designated for planning, preservation, and development, a substantial number are cultural sites. With appropriate restoration and investment, these cultural attractions have significant potential to draw tourists.
Tan stated that the Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress aims to establish local tourism as a key economic sector. While Quang Tri’s tourism industry has not yet achieved significant results, noticeable progress has been made. The sector has developed several valuable tours, including the “Tour for Peace,” which is gradually attracting visitors to the area.
The Vietnam tourism development strategy for 2030 has emphasized the importance of creating quality, diverse, and differentiated tourism products that offer high added value and align with market demand.
This approach aims to enhance the competitiveness of each destination, with a specific focus on developing cultural tourism products that preserve and promote the value of traditional cultural and historical heritage.
According to Tan, Quang Tri Province has significant potential to become a sought-after destination by effectively leveraging the value of its historical and cultural relics. Notable sites include the ancient Gio An irrigation system in Gio Linh Commune, the historical and cultural relics associated with Lord Nguyen and Sac Tu Pagoda in Trieu Phong Commune, the La Vang Mother of God Pilgrimage Center, the Cau Nhi communal house, the legacy of Bui Duc Tai, and the churches along the O Lau River in Hai Lang Commune, among many others.
However, cultural tourism in Quang Tri has not yet been fully realized in relation to its potential. Local authorities need to accurately identify heritage sites and invest in appropriate restoration efforts to transform these valuable cultural resources into viable tourism products. Additionally, they should develop community-based cultural models and encourage local participation in preserving and promoting the value of these relics.
“The human factor is crucial for tourism development. Local residents are encouraged to engage in cultural practices and share their indigenous values with tourists, rather than relying solely on professional actors for performances,” said Tan.
Additionally, he said local authorities should also invest in developing comprehensive art programs that narrate the historical and cultural stories of the local people. “This initiative may help the local tourism industry achieve positive outcomes.”
