Quang Tri pushes digital transformation to elevate local tourism

Quang Tri Province has accelerated digital transformation in the tourism sector in recent years, aiming to boost destination appeal, enhance service quality, and strengthen the province’s visibility among both domestic and international travelers.

Quang Tri is stepping up its tourism game with revamped communication efforts led by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DCST), in collaboration with local authorities and the Tourism Promotion Information Center.

Travelers can now access reliable, up-to-date information about the province’s attractions and services through official websites like dulichquangtri.com.vn, dulich.quangtri.gov.vn, and ipa.quangtri.gov.vn, designed to make trip planning easier and more engaging.

Social media platforms including Facebook, Zalo, YouTube, along with fanpages like “Visit Quang Tri” and “Checkin Quang Tri”, are being actively used to showcase the province’s scenic spots and cultural attractions. By tapping into these digital channels, Quang Tri is not only reaching a wider audience but also creating new opportunities to draw investment into its growing tourism sector.

To enhance the visitor experience, the DCST has teamed up with relevant units to roll out a range of digital initiatives. These include software for data storage and digital management, as well as the digitization of key heritage assets, such as four national treasures, ten Cham stone artifacts, the Phu Kinh village convention (Huong uoc), and the Special National Historical Site of Quang Tri Citadel. QR codes have also been installed at several relic sites, allowing tourists to access detailed information with a simple scan.

Authorities have actively applied digital technologies to streamline the licensing process for travel businesses and tour guides. They also use specialized software to manage records of overnight accommodations. This system connects with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and the Ministry of Public Security, helping modernize the state’s tourism management.

Many local businesses and residents have proactively adopted digital technology to enhance service quality. To improve service quality and enrich the visitor experience. Thanks to these efforts, travelers can now easily find information about destinations, local cuisine, and cultural activities, that were once hard to access through traditional channels.

Lao Stream in Ta Lao Village, Ta Long Commune, Dakrong District stands out as a shining example of community-based tourism’s rising success. Known for its pristine natural beauty, unique local culture, and strong community involvement, the destination is quickly gaining popularity.

Ho Thi Ngam, Head of the village Women’s Union and leader of the A Lao Community Tourism Cooperative, is among the key drivers behind this vibrant development.

“We use locally grown, chemical-free produce in our kitchen, plant rice and cajuput trees to enhance the area, and build eco-friendly huts that can be easily removed during floods,” Ngam shared.

The cooperative also sources free-range chicken, stream fish, and fresh forest vegetables to serve visitors, ensuring high standards of food safety and freshness. They actively leverage digital platforms like Facebook, Zalo, and TikTok to promote the destination, showcase local cuisine, and introduce traditional customs and attire. These efforts have significantly boosted A Lao Stream’s appeal, drawing growing interest from a wider audience.

Nguyen Tien Luc, Head of the Tourism Management Division under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated that digital transformation offers a breakthrough solution to accelerate tourism development, reduce costs and enhance operational efficiency. He added that in the coming period, the province will continue to promote the digitization of historical sites, cultural assets and local specialties.

Tourism authorities are researching and developing smart tourism platforms, including applications of virtual reality, artificial intelligence and mobile-based automatic tour guide systems. They expect these tools to significantly enhance the visitor experience and help Quang Tri’s tourism sector keep pace with global trends.

To ensure the success of digital transformation in tourism, the DCST emphasizes the importance of coordinated implementation by local authorities, businesses, and the community. Furthermore, there is a need to prioritize investment in modern IT infrastructure, develop clear implementation roadmaps, and continuously train human resources to ensure effective and sustainable deployment.
