Once known as a battlefield during wartime, this land is now transforming into a regional center for clean and renewable energy.
With its natural advantages, Quang Tri Province is creating a major breakthrough in energy development – an industry seen as the driving force for sustainable growth.
Located in central Vietnam, Quang Tri has ideal geographical and climatic conditions for renewable energy projects.
Its lowland areas receive high solar radiation, while the mountainous western region records average wind speeds above 7 meters per second, which is perfect for wind power development.
Building on these advantages and approved planning, Quang Tri has attracted 20 wind power projects with a total capacity of 742.2 MW, three solar power projects totaling 119.6 MW, 11 hydropower projects with 167.5 MW, and over 90 MW of rooftop solar systems that have been connected to the grid and are in commercial operation.
The province also has 10 more wind projects and 7 small hydropower projects approved for development, with construction underway.

In addition to renewable energy, Quang Tri is also home to large-scale power projects. At the Southeast Economic Zone, major investments are being made in gas power.
The Quang Tri Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Plant, with a capacity of 340 MW, has been added to the revised National Power Development Plan VII. The project, using gas from the offshore Bao Vang field, is developed by Gazprom EP International BV, a subsidiary of Russia’s Gazprom Group.
Another key project is the Hai Lang LNG Power Center (phase I), with a planned capacity of 1,500 MW. This is a nationally important project, expected to be completed and operational by 2027-2028.
The province has also proposed new projects for inclusion in the National Power Development Plan VIII. These include 62 onshore wind projects with a combined capacity of 4,748 MW, 12 of which have been approved for research and surveys, totaling around 1,100 MW.
There are also 3 potential offshore wind projects (2,600 MW) and 4 others approved for survey (3,000 MW). In solar energy, besides the three operating plants, 23 new projects have been included in the technical potential list under the new power plan.
Once operational, these energy projects are expected to boost the local budget and infrastructure. Over 100 kilometers of roads have been upgraded, nearly 600 local jobs created, and overall improvements made in livelihoods and social welfare.
Environmental assessments have been approved, ensuring that the projects balance renewable energy development with environmental protection, local livelihoods, and even eco-tourism.
Efforts to lure investors into energy sector
Energy has become a strategic pillar in Quang Tri’s development plan. The province is committed to effectively implementing the national energy strategy (Resolution 55-NQ/TW issued by the Politburo) and its own action plan, targeting a total power capacity of 3,000 MW by 2025 and 8,000-10,000 MW by 2030.
This growth is expected to significantly increase provincial revenue and meet rising socio-economic demands.

To support these goals, Quang Tri is improving its investment environment, ensuring legal transparency, safety, and efficiency for investors.
Authorities are focused on attracting large-scale, high-tech investors that use resources efficiently, create jobs, and produce high-value products.
The province has also prioritized updating electricity planning, especially for wind power, and has streamlined administrative processes to help investors resolve difficulties.
In addition to national incentive policies, investors in Quang Tri will receive local support, including land rent incentives and infrastructure development assistance. Technical support, workforce training, and market consulting are also offered depending on the project.
Provincial leaders have repeatedly expressed their strong commitment to supporting investors and clearing obstacles during project implementation.
Energy is not only a key industry but also a foundation for regional linkages. Quang Tri is focusing on strategic infrastructure projects in the Southeast Economic Zone, such as the My Thuy deep-water port, the VSIP Industrial Park, and the multi-sector industrial zone.
These projects are expected to play a central role in the province’s industrial development.
With dozens of large-scale projects already launched or in progress, Quang Tri is becoming a hotspot for clean energy, modern infrastructure, and eco-friendly tourism.
Its journey from a land of war to a “capital of clean energy” is a powerful symbol of resilience and ambition. Here, energy is not just a source of power, it is lighting the path to a greener, more prosperous future for this heroic land.
