Pi Mai Lao, also called Songkran, is Laos’ most cherished festival, celebrated annually from April 13 to 15. This vibrant three-day event ushers in the traditional Lao lunar new year, blending Buddhist rituals and local traditions to foster renewal, family bonds, and lively cultural celebrations.

On this occasion, Colonel Vu Van Dau, on behalf of the Vietnamese delegation, offered condolences for the passing of former Lao President Khamtay Siphandone, a pioneering leader of Laos’ revolutionary movement.

Expressing gratitude for the warm and respectful hospitality extended by their Lao counterparts, Colonel Dau conveyed New Year greetings, wishing the officers and their leadership a joyful and prosperous Pi May holiday. He also commended their ongoing efforts to maintain security and order in their localities.

Colonel Dau emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between Quang Tri’s police and the Lao provincial forces to combat crime and ensure stability along the Vietnam-Laos border. He said that such efforts are in line with commitments in annual memoranda of understanding signed between Quang Tri’s police and the Lao provinces.

Leaders from the three Lao provinces expressed heartfelt appreciation for Quang Tri police’s care and goodwill. They voiced optimism for deepening ties, fostering greater unity, and enhancing joint efforts to secure the shared border, strengthening the bond between the two nations’ police forces.

Police of Quang Tri province and Laos’ Salavan, Champasak, and Savannakhet provinces share a deep bond forged by history, proximity, and a commitment to peace along their shared border.

Over the past time, the two sides have held regular high-level exchanges, cultural festivals, and joint security efforts, solidifying their partnership. The provinces foster solidarity through events like the Vietnam-Laos People Friendship Festival, celebrating shared heritage with performances and community exchanges.

In terms of security, Quang Tri collaborates with its Lao counterparts to protect border markers, combat smuggling and trafficking, and ensure stability via joint patrols and intelligence-sharing, guided by annual agreements.
