In 2024, the province signed eight international agreements and 13 cooperation documents with foreign non-governmental organizations and international institutions. Quang Tri also established and expanded cooperation programs with the provinces of Champasak and Sekong. The Provincial People’s Committee, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Thai Embassy in Vietnam, co-hosted the “Meet Thailand” conference in Quang Tri.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has played a key role in organizing the 2024 “Festival for Peace” under the theme "Joining Hands to Create a Peaceful World." It has also supported Quang Tri in nominating historical and scenic sites for UNESCO recognition, contributing to cultural preservation and tourism development. The ministry has assisted in border management and cooperation with Laos and has provided significant support in post-war recovery, particularly in mine clearance and the removal of unexploded ordnance.

Vice Chairman Hoang Nam requested the delegation of Heads of Vietnam’s Diplomatic Missions Abroad to help strengthen international cooperation in climate change response, connect Quang Tri with potential foreign investors, and share insights into investment trends in their respective countries. This information would enable the province to develop suitable investment promotion strategies. He also emphasized the need for support in capacity-building for local officials and students through scholarships, exchange programs, and overseas training opportunities.
Regarding the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he requested assistance in advocating for and leading the implementation of the Pacific Friendship Humanitarian Cooperation Program, funded by the U.S. government, which is expected to take place in September 2025 (priority option) or August 2025 (alternative option). He also sought approval for the ministry to co-host the “Introducing Quang Tri” conference in 2025 in Hanoi and to help the province expand local-level partnerships with cities and provinces worldwide, with priority given to Hiroshima (Japan) and Gangwon (South Korea).
Additionally, he asked for the ministry’s help in mobilizing long-term, sustainable aid from international organizations and foreign NGOs for victims of Agent Orange, people with disabilities, education, healthcare, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation. He also suggested inviting international media outlets to visit Quang Tri, produce documentaries, and promote the province globally.
Hoang Nam further requested the ministry to engage with the U.S. government to enhance cooperation in locating missing Vietnamese soldiers, an effort that has been successfully implemented in Quang Tri. He also asked for guidance in repatriating human remains and made specific proposals to Vietnamese ambassadors and consuls general abroad.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet acknowledged and recorded Quang Tri’s requests and proposals. He affirmed that the ministry and the delegation of Heads of Vietnam’s Diplomatic Missions Abroad would actively support the province by strengthening international connections. “The information on Quang Tri’s potential, strengths, achievements, and development direction will serve as an important basis for Vietnam’s diplomatic representatives abroad to promote and connect the province with international partners for future cooperation,” Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet emphasized.
In recent years, Quang Tri Province has continued to expand its international partnerships. In addition to its traditional partners, the province has maintained cooperative relations with over 15 foreign local governments, nearly 60 international organizations and non-governmental organizations, and 20 donors. It also maintains regular engagement with foreign diplomatic missions in Vietnam.
Quang Tri has actively promoted economic diplomacy, investment, trade, and tourism with countries along the East-West Economic Corridor, creating opportunities for future investment projects in the province. Its special friendship and cooperation with neighboring Lao provinces along the shared border have deepened across all sectors. Public diplomacy and cultural diplomacy efforts have been effectively implemented through diverse and dynamic initiatives. The province has also successfully organized communication campaigns to commemorate Vietnam’s diplomatic relations with other countries, aligning with the overall plan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Quang Tri has made notable progress in supporting overseas Vietnamese. Efforts to disseminate information about the Party’s policies, the State’s laws, and the province’s socio-economic development have been strengthened, along with initiatives to ensure the rights and interests of Vietnamese communities abroad.
