Speaking at the opening of the digital exhibition, Le Minh Tuan, Director of Quang Tri’s Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, talked about the urgent need to uphold Vietnam’s sovereignty over its seas and islands. He said that improving public awareness, unity, and a sense of duty, especially among young people, to safeguard Vietnam’s maritime rights remains a continuous priority across all sectors.

“The sea is the lifeblood of our nation, sustaining millions and serving as a vital frontier for development,” Tuan said, noting: “Protecting our maritime sovereignty is a critical mission and a shared responsibility of our Party, people, and armed forces.”

The 2025 exhibition powerfully reaffirms Vietnam’s inviolable sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos. Through vivid images, videos, maps, and rare documents, it presents compelling historical and legal evidence of Vietnam’s sovereignty, reinforcing the islands’ integral role in the nation’s identity.

The event aims to spark patriotism, strengthen national solidarity, and cultivate a sense of responsibility among citizens, particularly youth, including students, youth union members, and academics, to defend Vietnam’s maritime boundaries. It also pays tribute to the generations who gave their lives to defend the nation’s sacred seas and islands.

Representatives from the Vietnam Coast Guard Region 2 Command presented detailed accounts of the geographical, administrative, and historical efforts to establish and maintain Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa at the event that marked the participation of attendees, including officials, students, and locals.

The department also honored five students who excelled in the online contest “Discovering Vietnam’s Seas and Islands,” held from April 15 to 17. Attracting 6,967 high school students from grade 10 across the province, the competition deepened understanding of Vietnam’s maritime legacy.

Running on April 18-19, the exhibition marks Quang Tri’s 11th year hosting the “Hoang Sa, Truong Sa of Vietnam” event and its second year in digital format, showcasing Vietnam’s innovative use of technology to preserve and share its historical narrative.
