The event reaffirmed the role, meaning, and importance of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam.
Authorities in the central province of Quang Tri on June 10 hosted a ceremony to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the headquarters of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam in Cam Lo District.

At the event, participants recalled the heroic history of their forefathers, honored the sacrifice of Vietnamese people in national defense and unification that has educated young generations about patriotism and nationalism, and encouraged the modern Vietnamese to develop a civilized, happy, and prosperous nation.

After the Paris Peace Accords was signed on January 27, 1973, to end the war and restore peace in Vietnam, the Politburo decided to move the headquarters of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam from Tay Ninh to Quang Tri, the first liberated southern province.
The move aimed to take advantage of the international communities" support and combined the power of politics, the military, and society to create an immense force that restored national unity in the country.

In 1973-1976, the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam had relentless efforts to contribute to revolutionary activities in the south, which led to the full-scale attack and national liberation on April 30, 1975, and the first parliamentary elections in 1976.

“Quang Tri, as the first liberated province, cleared off the line that had separated our nation and connected revolutionary bases in Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Danang, and Southern Laos,” Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai said in his remarks.
“The province then became an indispensable base for political, military and diplomatic actions.”

The change of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam“s head office proved the Party”s vision, promoted the role and status of the Southern government to the international communities, and marked the significant growth of the southern revolution.
“It was the right decision of the Party to move the headquarters of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam here (in Quang Tri Province) so that we could strengthen our activities in the South,” he said.

On June 6, 1973, the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam first met in Cam Lo District to resolute vital policies. The event was well-received by the people, soldiers, representatives of 19 nations, and international reporters.

Until 1976, the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam actively participated in international anti-war campaigns, exposed the conspiracies to break the Paris Peace Accords, and asked for international support for the Vietnamese people"s fight.

The Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam also welcomed many international delegations to establish diplomatic relations, including Georges Marchais, Head of the French Communist Party, and Cuban President Fidel Castro.
Quang Tri nowadays
Proud of the history, the authorities and people of Quang Tri Province have stayed together to overcome challenges and difficulties and achieved new accomplishments and targets in all fields, deputy prime minister Khai said.
“Quang Tri Province pledges to promote their unbroken spirit to expand the development. Historical and cultural values will be the source of power for the future of Vietnamese and Quang Tri people.”

In his remarks, Secretary of the Quang Tri Party Committee Le Quang Tung affirmed the positive results of moving the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam headquarters to Quang Tri.
After the ceremony, a show themed “A Government for Peace” took place at the headquarters relic and involved hundreds of famous artists. The ceremony ended with a firework display in the air of Cam Lo District.
